I tried to find the perfect curtain for my bright, retro color schemed kitchen and it wasn't happening. My mom gave me some dishtowels, hanging clips, and metal rings and said "Do It Yourself". Here is a simple way to turn your boring window into something people will notice.
What You Will Need:
- 1 or 2 Dishtowels, table cloth, or cute fabric. Your choice.
(amount may change depending on size of window)
- 1 bag of hanging clips*
- 1 bag of metal rings*
- 1 curtain rod
* You can find these at your local hardware or home improvement store for about $5.00
The kind of curtain rod I was using was $3.00
Attach the hanging clips the top of your dishtowel, all the way across, 3-4 inches apart.
Hang the curtain rod in the desired window.
Attach each hanging clip to the corresponding metal ring by placing the hook onto the ring.
and TA DA! You have a unique and funky kitchen curtain and you only spent 5 minutes Doing It Yourself!

After After Sometimes for extra privacy I attach two matching dishtowels to the curtain rod and my entire window is covered.
I always like finding table clothes and dish towels at flea markets! Also, you can search dish towels at etsy.

Other dish towel ideas:
Apron- Position on towel vertically and the other horizontally below it. Sew the towels together and then sew on string or ribbon to tie the apron at the neck and waist.
Baby Bib- Cut a large hold in the center of a dish towel. Sew soft cotton ribbing or felt around the hole to prevent fraying.
Dog Toy- Braid three dishtowels together and tie the ends with strings, or just tie your towel into a couple tight knots.
Pot holder- Fold a dish towel into a square, insert mylar batting and sew around the edges.
Tote Bag- Sew two towels together . Add a strip of canvas or ribbon to the top for a handle. You could include a button to close the bag.
Send me photos of your dish towel curtain!
