Get back into it...

I'm very confused about this "down" time.

Last Fall I couldn't keep up with myself. I was always making, always selling, always prepping for the next show and more. Now... I have so much down time and I don't know what to do. I know what I should do. Make thing, design new things, market, research, sell, dedicate that much more time to my etsy and my blog, spend more of that time on my "fine arts".

I might have artist block. or at least artist exhaustion.

Inspiration Please :) What keeps you inspired?

What are your favorite blogs or etsy shops or websites?

I always enjoy Domesticas facebook posts, and her store is ever better. Check it out!

Dread and Shred...

Now that February is almost over I am finally starting my "new years resolution"...

On Monday my friend Alyssa and I started our new healthy life. We have the same classes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays so after our last class gets over at 3:00 we head over to the gym on campus and run!!! Wooo!

So Its only been 5 days but I am starting to see the light! Monday was tough, first day is always the hardest right?
Tuesdays and Thursdays we are on our own, but I purchased Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and even though she can be annoying its a good workout. It was only $9.00 at Target and it has three workouts on it. (I'm thinking about actually trying it 30 days in a row.
Today we have no class so were mixing it up and heading to a different gym for a class and a run.

Eating wise, I dont have a set plan yet but I've been doing yogurt and granola or cereal bar and fruit for breakfast, tuna or pb&j for lunch with some fruits or veggies and a lean cuisine or a "real" meal that is healthy, for dinner. Lots of water and fruit if hungry.

Goals? 20 lbs.... (and then we shall see). I'm currently inspired by my friend Karissa and her goal!

Stay healthy, Mimi

Special Thanks to Donna O'Brien for letting me use these vintage images.

An exhausting weekend....

I didn't realize how "old" I was getting until I stayed up late one night and it knocked me on my feet for days!

I went up to Minneapolis on Friday with a girlfriend to go to another girlfriends baby shower!!! Yay babies!!! It was so special to hang out with some of the greatest people I know and to celebrate a new life, a new addition to the family and have a reminder of how blessed I am to have such amazing girlfriends. Between a new baby, a recent graduate, a new engagement, a new boyfriend, and a new adventure I was reminded of the joys of life.

In the mean time a storm was brewing and blizzard weather was suppose to hit our path home to Des Moines Saturday night. So sadly, my friend and I jumped back into the car around 10:00pm and made the trip home. I am not a night owl so this made me nervous. I purchased three double shots and powered through. I had a conversational wizard in the car next to me who at one point began asking me one weird question after another. I asked her if she was googling these from her phone... but no, it was her brain.

After dropping her off, driving 30mph on the way home because of downpour rain and crawling into my very cozy bed I laid there for at least another hour because my body was not used to that much caffeine. So sometime after 3:00 I fell asleep.

Sunday I feel okay... but Monday and Tuesday I am exhausted. I even took a very long nap on Tuesday just to try and survive the day.

At last.... I am back to my old self.

And here to share things with you... like these pieces I recently did for my sister.

These were both done in my painting class. The assignment was a two person narrative.

This is a collage piece. I drew and painted Naomi and Magnolia, then cut them out and pasted them onto this "wallpaper" sheet. The little flowers are collaged on also.

This one is all acrylic. These contour lines and flat colors are different for me, but I like them.

Happy Baby Season!

Happy Friday

Crock Pot Candies!!!

These were sooo easy and even more delicious.

What you need:
Crock Pot
Wax Paper or Foil
Spoon

What I mixed:
I poured Semi Sweet Chips, Milk Chocolate Chips, Almond Bark, Butterscotch Chips, Toffee "chips" and Peanuts into a crock pot. Turned on high. Stirring occasionally until its all melty goodness.

Turn off, let cool for 20 minutes or so and start plopping piles onto your paper using your spoon.

After they cool on the counter, I would move them into the fridge before you peel off the paper. I wrapped mine individually in saran wrap.

Enjoy ~ Mimi

Have a great weekend. I will be in Minneapolis this weekend so get creative while I'm gone!

New obsession...

Blame winter... but recently I'm obsessed with flowers. They really do light up a room, even if they end up dying and smelling weird.

Buy some for yourself.

Artist Feature - Anna Joyce Designs

Who is behind that amazing ETSY? Here is where you find out! Meet Anna from Anna Joyce.

Get to know Anna:
I am an artist, designer and mother to two young girls living in Portland, Oregon. I have a home studio where I create my limited edition and one of a kind applique work for my Etsy shop and boutiques here in Portland. I love spending time with my wonderful husband, girls and friends and my favorite place on earth is the Oregon coast on a sunny day surrounded by my friends and family.

What is Anna Joyce all about:
I have been putting most of my energy over the last year and a half into running and selling from my Etsy shop full time. There has been a huge learning curve, but I am very proud to be where I am today.
I love sewing and making and I also love teaching! I teach applique at Modern Domestic here in Portland, teaching always inspires me. I also collaborated with Julie from Studio Olivine on a limited edition letterpress art print for the holidays last year- I would love to do more of that kind of work in the future.

The inspired artist in her:
I am inspired by color, patterns and shapes! I live for finding and using vintage fabrics and unusual patterns in my work. I am also constantly inspired by my children and the books that we read together and the art that they make.

Loving Etsy:
I LOVE Etsy because it has given me a way to sell and connect directly with customers and people who love my work. It makes me happy to be able to sell my art for a fair price that people can afford because they are buying it on Etsy. I love how easy it is for me to bring new products and designs to my customers as well- after a good day in the studio I can have my shop loaded with goodies that same evening- I love that!

Favorite Things:
Well...Coffee! My girls and husband, my best friends, my computer, Portland, my fabric collection and my new
sewing machine- a Bernina 450 named Bernice.

Dreams: I am working on a 5 year plan with Anna Joyce Design. Until both of my girls are in school full time I am trying to continue and build on my success while still being the best and most present mother I can be. In the next few years I would love to move my studio from my home into a store front, where I could work and sell to the public in the same space...the idea of having a small store front feels really exciting.
I would like to write a book about applique with projects and ideas from my life style...I really love all of Lotta Jansdotter's books and would love to write one of my own. Of course a feature in Martha Stewart and having Anthropologie buy some of my designs would be nice too...

You need to check out Anna Joyce Designs, I could get lost there for hours! So inspiring! annajoyce.etsy.com Also check out her fantastic blog. annajoycedesign.blogspot.com

Thanks Anna! -Mimi
