One of my favorite pieces of Art History

This is Willem de Kooning's "Woman I" painted in 1950. Kooning was an abstract expressionist painter who was one of the first artists to combine abstract brushwork with figurative imagery. What you wouldn't expect with this type of work is the time and effort he actually put into this work. He painted the image on this canvas over 100 times.

  1. I love this painting! I actually learned to draw from De Kooning.... my professor taught me how to make connections in the drawing... his work is full of them!
